Key Control Points of Precision Die Casting Production to Avoid Porosity and Deformation
Porosity and deformation are the two most common and quality-threatening defects in precision die casting production. They not only reduce the compactness and structural strength of castings, but also cause dimensional tolerance errors and poor appearance, greatly increasing scrap costs. To achieve stable mass production of high-precision die-cast parts, it is critical to strictly control four core processes: smelting, mold condition, injection parameter setting and cooling management. Standardized whole-process control can fundamentally eliminate porosity and deformation, ensuring high yield rate and dimensional stability of finished products.

Smelting and degassing serve as the first line of defense against porosity. Aluminum alloy, zinc alloy and other raw materials easily absorb hydrogen during melting, forming internal pores after cooling. Manufacturers must implement strict refining and degassing procedures with degassing agents and rotary degassing equipment to remove gas from molten metal. Meanwhile, precise melting temperature control avoids overheating and secondary gas absorption. Regular removal of oxide slag and impurities keeps the molten liquid clean and effectively prevents inclusion porosity.
Mold condition and venting design directly determine forming quality. Blocked exhaust grooves and unreasonable runner layouts trap air inside the cavity, resulting in dense porosity on and inside workpieces. Regular cleaning of exhaust channels and parting surface residues is essential for smooth ventilation. In addition, accurate mold temperature control prevents uneven cooling. Excessive temperature difference causes warpage and deformation. Reasonable temperature matching according to product structure — low-temperature rapid cooling for thin-walled parts and balanced temperature control for thick parts — avoids deformation caused by inconsistent thermal shrinkage.
Injection parameters and cooling techniques are core to deformation control. Excessively fast injection speed and insufficient pressure easily trap air and produce pores. Segmented injection processes including low-speed filling, high-speed compaction and stable pressure holding can significantly improve casting compactness. After demolding, violent picking and stacking extrusion are prohibited. Gradient cooling procedures relieve internal stress and prevent structural deformation. Comprehensive and refined process management greatly reduces porosity and deformation, enabling stable production of high-precision, high-strength precision die-cast components.
