Why Defects Occur in Precision Die Casting? Analysis of Core Process Key Points
Precision die casting is widely used in new energy, automotive, hardware and electronics industries for forming high-precision, thin-walled and complex structural parts. However, production frequently suffers from defects such as porosity, shrinkage holes, burrs, deformation and cold shuts, which directly affect product accuracy, appearance and qualification rate. Most die-casting defects are not caused by raw material issues, but by improper process parameters, inaccurate mold control and inadequate production management. Mastering core process essentials can fundamentally reduce defect rates and ensure stable quality of precision die-cast products.
Mold accuracy and temperature control are the foundation of defect prevention. Precision die casting requires extremely high cavity finish and precise fitting clearances. Mold wear and poorly fitted parting surfaces easily cause burrs and flash. Unbalanced mold temperature is a major cause of forming failures: excessive mold temperature leads to sticking and warping, while insufficient temperature causes rapid molten metal cooling and results in cold shuts and flow lines. According to different materials such as aluminum, zinc and copper alloys, manufacturers must maintain a stable and accurate mold temperature range to ensure smooth and uniform filling.

Precise adjustment of die-casting parameters determines final forming quality. Injection pressure, injection speed and pouring temperature are the three critical parameters. Insufficient pressure leads to incomplete filling and shrinkage porosity; excessive speed entraps air and causes blowholes. For precision components, a segmented injection strategy is recommended: low-speed stable filling followed by high-speed compaction with reasonable pressure holding delay. This effectively exhausts cavity air, improves casting density and eliminates internal void defects.
Post-process exhaust and demolding management are equally essential. Blocked exhaust channels are the primary cause of porosity and require regular cleaning. In addition, proper release agent selection and uniform spraying avoid surface defects caused by excessive coating accumulation. Strict control of material purity, smelting degassing, standardized cooling and workpiece picking procedures can effectively reduce external deformation. Comprehensive refined process management effectively eliminates common die-casting defects and ensures stable production of high-precision, high-quality castings.
